zombie fingers


this is a great project for middle age kids with adults .

Ingredients:

2 cups all purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon fine salt

1/2 cup butter ( 1 stick) unsalted butter at room temperature

1 cup sugar

1 large egg at room temperature

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

28 large sliced almonds

1/2 cup raspberry jam

  1. place oven rack in center of oven ,preheat oven to 325 f . spray rimmed baking sheet with vegetable cooking spray or line with silicon baking mat set aside
  2. In medium bowl whisk together flour, baking powder,and salt set aside
  3. in stand mixer with paddle attachment beat butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.scraping sides of bowl with spatula as needed 2 to 3 minutes. Beat in egg and vanilla until smooth gradually beat in flour mixture until dough forms
  4. using 1 1/2 tablespoons of dough at a time roll dough between palms into 5 inch long fingers about 1/2 inch thick .press firmly a sliced almond into each end of finger to make fingernail.Make several horizontal cuts about 1/4 inch deep and 1/2 inch long to make knuckles . Arrange fingers on baking sheet and bake until golden brown .16 to 18 minutes transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
  5. In a small saucepan, heat jam over low heat until warm, about 2 minutes. Dip blunt ends into warm jam, then arrange on a platter.

This is always a big hit with our guests, especially the younger ones.
