this is a great project for middle age kids with adults .
Ingredients:
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon fine salt
1/2 cup butter ( 1 stick) unsalted butter at room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 large egg at room temperature
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
28 large sliced almonds
1/2 cup raspberry jam
- place oven rack in center of oven ,preheat oven to 325 f . spray rimmed baking sheet with vegetable cooking spray or line with silicon baking mat set aside
- In medium bowl whisk together flour, baking powder,and salt set aside
- in stand mixer with paddle attachment beat butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.scraping sides of bowl with spatula as needed 2 to 3 minutes. Beat in egg and vanilla until smooth gradually beat in flour mixture until dough forms
- using 1 1/2 tablespoons of dough at a time roll dough between palms into 5 inch long fingers about 1/2 inch thick .press firmly a sliced almond into each end of finger to make fingernail.Make several horizontal cuts about 1/4 inch deep and 1/2 inch long to make knuckles . Arrange fingers on baking sheet and bake until golden brown .16 to 18 minutes transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
- In a small saucepan, heat jam over low heat until warm, about 2 minutes. Dip blunt ends into warm jam, then arrange on a platter.
This is always a big hit with our guests, especially the younger ones.
